ColonelSantosh Yashwant MahadikSC, SM[4](15 January 1977–17 November 2015) was an Indian Army Officer and the Commanding Officer of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles, who was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra and Sena Medal (gallantry).[5][6]
He was a para commando whose parent unit was the 21 Para SF.
During his service in Operation Rhino in Kupwara, he received the Sena Medal for Gallantry.[7] When he was commanding the 44 Rashtriya Rifles battalion in 2015, he was killed in action. The President of India awarded him the Shaurya Chakra posthumously for his leadership and tremendous sacrifices on 26 January 2016.[4]
Personal life and education
Santosh was born on 15 January 1977 at Pogarwadi village of the Satara district of Maharashtra.
His father was a farmer.

He was good at boxing, running, and goalkeeping since childhood. He completed his education at Sainik School, Satara, Maharashtra.
